Though it's dark outside I see a light
Though it's dark outside I see a light
Though it's dark outside I see a light
Though it's dark outside I see a light
There's someone outside.
Quotes
"This was the very first track I wrote for the record. I'd just gotten all my equipment and I was learning to use it. I'd moved to a new city and I was living in the suburbs for the very first time. I'd gone from a council estate in a northern mining village to a campus university to a Midlands inner city. Even though I'd been living in areas where some really bad things happened, I found the suburbs really disturbing. This was written at the end of November, when the days are suddenly very short and everything feels a bit bleak. My house was on a hill, so everyone could see into my first floor studio window, so I could feel a bit exposed. I looked out the window and there was a film of snow over everything, turned orange and black by the streetlights and shadows. A lone figure in the snow, face obscured, just looking up at me was the most frightening thing I could imagine just then, and the song just happened. Now, I know you can't assume the person outside looking at you wants to harm you. Maybe he's an admirer. Maybe it's neighbourhood watch. Maybe he's not looking at you at all. And maybe he's creeped out by how long the girl in the window's been looking down at him."
