Lyrics

It came with the hurricane no one saw coming til it was too late.
You were alone at home and the lights were dimming on their own.
Everything you touch turns to dust - is rusting off their hinge.
You looked down and found your hands had a blueish tinge.

How long before the power cuts out in my head?
Just like my mother's, just like my father's did
And I'm here in a hole that's dug so well.

There in the dark is where it started. There in the rain.
You awoke on a bed of shattered window pain.
All you did was wonder why the thunder didn't seem as loud
As the ticking of your heart's own human shroud

How long before the power cuts out in my head?
Just like my mother's, just like my father's did
And I'm here in a hole that's dug so well.

You were not the same from then on.
You were always waiting for some great act of God.
I said it's been a long time since he stopped listening
But you were sure he'd answer all your questions
Given time, given one minute of his time.
How long before the power cuts out in my head?
Just like my mother's, just like my father's did
And I'm here in a hole that's dug so well.
And I'm here in a hole I dug myself.

Quotes

"This was one of two songs on the album I'd written before I started the project. It was originally just solo piano and I felt it needed to stay that way. So I put the piano in the middle and built up around in, dropping in instruments as support struts. Aside from the drums, everything is a keyboard instrument, including the wall-of-noise "heavy guitar" sound, which is a Yamaha Electric Grand through two distorted amps. These instruments are so stunning - they're acoustic pianos minus the soundboard and fitted with pickups under each string. Basically, they are to pianos what electric guitars are to acoustics. Hook one up to an effects rig and crank your amp up and then explain to me why they weren't the new lead guitarist's weapon of choice."
