July 2008

Saturday 19th

Yesterday was such a good day. You know those days where it starts off normal and just gets better and better and better? It was just like that.

I'll be honest with you: June and the first half of July were really tough for me. It's been really stressful, physically and emotionally, and it all got on top of me. Yesterday I woke up feeling like I couldn't deal for much longer.

And then I got a phone call which told me I was not alone, which lifted me out of it. And then I got some great news from the label (which we'll tell you about in August). And then I played a genuinely great gig in a lovely little venue (the only downside of which was a set of very unexpected steep stairs. Thank you again to the strapping young lad who came to my rescue when I realised I couldn't lift it high enough).

Thank you to everyone who was there, and to those of you who've been so very supportive these last few months. It's meant a lot.

Today I took the day off, guilt free, which must be my first in a while which didn't involve driving hundreds of miles and being polite to strangers. I went to a carnival (which was not very good, despite everyone's best efforts), talked to a man from Shelter who was from the same town I am (very unlikely - I gave him a CD as a reward for being a good coincidence), bought some ridiculousy cheap sale crockery as a gift for Boyfriend (who, I recently discovered, doesn't actually own any bowls), wandered about and then came home and watched a silly amount of Sci Fi. I am almost all geeked out.

I'm halfway through Dave Gorman's new book (don't judge me - I like the man) and am trying not to read it too fast as I have 7 hours of train journeys ahead of me next week. I'm very bad at reading Proper Literature on trains, so I'm going to have to make it last or find something equally as unchallenging in my collection. This will be tricky. Any recommendations gladly accepted.

Friday 18th

today, i just can't stop eating. i am worried i'm going to inflate like a marshmallow in a microwave.

once i had a fever and woke up believing i was a marshmallow. it was lovely.

Monday 14th

So, it has been pointed out to me that I should really share my travels in Somerset with The Internet. I'm sure you'll all be fascinated.

Basically, we went down for a family wedding (not, I hasten to add, my family, though I'm officially now "a Watson" according to the wedding pictures) and then we stayed a bit longer and went on safari. Oh yes. Safari. In North Somerset. I am so damn rock.

It rained almost constantly.

This is where we stayed. Shortly afterwards, there was a spectacular storm. I believe somewhere in the roof, frankenstein was having another go.

Then wedding, dancing, booze, people. Then: SAFARI!

I fed a deer.

The deer got wind of this. They attacked. Deer slobber is stringy.

I cuddle a miniature goat. It was possibly the best goat ever.

Boyfriend tried to cuddle a goat too.

He failed.

It was very very good. And then we got trapped in a maze. for two hours. during a downpour. There are some awesome pictures of that. In which I look very silly. And a bit drowned.

Saturday 12th

Finally back home, and very behind on my various messages. No internet for a few days ends up with mail coming out my ears.

Boyfriend and I have had a very un-rock'n'roll few days in Somerset for his sister's wedding. I caught the bouquet. You should have seen his face.

Sunday 6th

It is pissing it down outside in that incredibly pleasing way only heavy summer rain can. I love heavy rain. Either stripping off and running in it, or sitting on the windowsill with the windows wide open looking out at it, preferably with side two of Lift Yr Skinny Fists on in the background.

So, when I saw it was raining, I dived for the window and threw it wide open, leaning out into the fresh air and listening the rain lashing on the ground. And then a bee flew into my face. It looked very confused. I love bees. Good day.

In an odd coincidence, today I listened to the first remix of one of my tracks, done by the lovely Bing Satellites, which happens to feature the sound of rain quite prominently. You can hear it on the remixes page.
